Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) has now alleged in a new op-ed that President Joe Biden, a “mentor and friend,” failed to notice him at a recent event.
Moulton is now among a rising number of Democratic lawmakers who have encouraged Biden to withdraw his reelection candidacy due to worries about his age and stamina.
So far, the president has persisted on staying in the campaign.
Moulton wrote in a Boston Globe op-ed published Friday on his close friendship with Biden, recalling how the president rallied for him during his primary fight in 2014.
“More recently, I saw him in a small group at Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. For the first time, he didn’t seem to recognize me. Of course, that can happen as anyone ages, but as I watched the disastrous debate a few weeks ago, I have to admit that what I saw in Normandy was part of a deeper problem,” Moulton wrote.
He further stated that Biden has schooled him on the inner workings of Congress during meetings and over the phone.
The congressman, however, said that the Biden he met this year at a D-Day commemoration ceremony was not the same person.
Moulton said Biden has “mastered” the job and complimented him for a lot of accomplishments while in office, but he believes he cannot defeat Donald Trump in November, especially in light of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
