In a video interview that was made public on Wednesday, President Biden reportedly stated that he would reconsider his decision to continue running for president if a medical professional informed him up front that his condition required it.
Mr. Biden has stated time and time again that none of his medical professionals have informed him that he has a serious illness.
However, concerns concerning his health and sharpness have been heightened by his appalling performance during a debate with former President Donald J. Trump last month, which sparked a chorus of calls for his resignation from Democratic allies.
Mr. Biden was asked if there was anything that would make him reconsider entering the race during an interview with Ed Gordon of BET News.
“If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, you got this problem and that problem,” Biden said.
The president has made a number of evasive comments about what would make him change his mind. This one is the most recent. Mr. Biden stated this month in an interview with ABC News that he would withdraw only at the command of the “Lord almighty.”
A few days later, during a press conference in Washington, he declared that he would not withdraw from the campaign unless his advisors presented him with evidence that he was never going to win.
Also for the first time, Mr. Biden also disclosed that he had intended to “move on” from the president and “pass it on to somebody else,” but he changed his mind and decided to run again, citing his wisdom and experience as potential assets to mend the nation’s escalating differences.
“You may remember Ed, I said I was going to be a transitional candidate, and I thought I would be able to move on from this and pass it on to somebody else. But I didn’t anticipate things getting so, so, so divided. And quite frankly, I think the only thing age brings is a little bit of wisdom.” Biden remarked.
In recent days Biden has come under renewed pressure from top Democratic leaders to drop out of the presidential race.
