According to survey data released only two days before Independence Day, a much higher percentage of Republicans than Democrats and independents say they are “extremely proud” to be American.
According to a Gallup poll conducted among American adults from June 3–23, 59% of Republicans still identify as “extremely proud” of their country, which is close to record lows.
A majority of U.S. adults (67%) are extremely or very proud to be an American.
Republicans are uniquely patriotic, with 59% versus 36% of independents and 34% of Democrats reporting they are extremely proud to be American.

According to Gallup, only 34% of Democrats and 36% of independents stated the same, a small increase over the previous year for both groups.
In the last five years, there has been a decrease in the difference between Republican and Democratic levels of pride in America.
Democrats’ pride in America has increased from 22% in 2019 to 34% in 2024, while Republicans’ pride in their nation has decreased from 76% to 59%.
According to the Gallup poll, that difference started to narrow during the conclusion of the previous administration of President Donald Trump and continued to do so during President Joe Biden’s first term.
