Sam Brinton, the discredited official of the Biden administration, reportedly obtained a hefty plea agreement this week. Brinton was arrested for pilfering women’s bags at many U.S. airports.
After pleading guilty to misdemeanor petty larceny, the former employee of the Department of Energy will not face jail time. His original charges of felony grand larceny had a maximum penalty of 20 years.
Brinton, 37, who goes by they/them, was accused of taking two women’s suitcases from airports in 2022: one from Minneapolis and the other from Las Vegas.
Brinton was sacked from his position as deputy assistant secretary for the Office of Nuclear Energy.
According to police and court documents, the value of the luggage and their contents as a whole exceeded nine thousand dollars.
Brinton was then detained a third time in May of last year after he stole a Tanzanian fashion designer’s custom-designed baggage, which he then wore to high-profile public engagements.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport was the location of that theft.
Brinton has avoided going to jail in each of the three cases.
Prosecutors in Arlington General District Court secretly revealed the plea agreement in the luxury clothing case last week.
As per the terms of his plea agreement, Brinton is now required to receive mental health therapy, write an apology letter, and complete 50 hours of community service for the elderly.
Asya Khamsin, a Tanzanian designer, made her accusations against Brinton public last year after noticing pictures of Brinton in her custom-made clothing in news articles.
