A state appeals court reportedly decided on Tuesday that Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has been disbarred “effective immediately” for his role in the controversy surrounding the 2020 presidential election.
Giuliani “flagrantly misused” his position as an attorney for former President Trump and his campaign to make “intentionally” false statements to courts, Congress, and the public, according to a panel of justices in the Appellate Division, First Department of New York.
Giuliani was given an order by the New York appeals panel to “desist and refrain” from practicing law in any capacity, representing himself “in any way” as an attorney, showing up as a lawyer before any court or public authority, and giving legal advice.
Giuliani’s fraudulent allegations of ballot smuggling, deceased voters, or voters who are not citizens of the United States were used as justification for the ruling.
It centered on his erroneous statements regarding the elections in Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia.
More than 50 years ago, in 1969, Giuliani was admitted to the New York bar.
However, in 2021, his license to practice law was suspended due to his attempts to maintain Trump in the White House following his loss in the 2020 presidential election.
For the same reasons, his Washington, D.C., law license has also been suspended.
In addition, he is an unidentified, uncharged accomplice in Trump’s criminal case pertaining to election subversion.
He declared bankruptcy in December after a jury found him liable for an astounding $148 million to two former Georgia election workers.
