An absolute debacle. That’s been the consensus across the entire political spectrum in response to Joe Biden’s performance during the CNN debate on Thursday night.
The Associated Press summed up the 46th president’s showing this way: “A raspy and sometimes halting President Joe Biden tried repeatedly to confront Donald Trump in their first debate ahead of the November election, as his Republican rival countered Biden’s criticism by leaning into falsehoods about the economy, illegal immigration and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.
Biden’s uneven performance, particularly early in the debate, crystallized the concerns of many Americans that, at 81, he is too old to serve as president. It sparked a fresh round of calls for the Democrat to consider stepping aside as the party’s nominee as members of his party fear a return of Trump to the White House.
But Biden’s delivery from the beginning of the debate drew the most attention afterward. Trump’s allies immediately declared victory while prominent Democrats publicly questioned whether Biden could move forward.”
USA Today noted that “David Axelrod, former senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, told CNN after the first presidential debate there will be discussions about whether President Joe Biden should continue running in the 2024 election.
His comments come after Biden froze up on stage, stuttered and went on rambles during his debate against former President Donald Trump.
Axelrod argued that while Biden did score points when discussing issues such as abortion and the economy, he did not meet his mission of appearing energetic and engaged to the audience.”
The former Obama adviser said, “I think there was a sense of shock actually, how he came out at the beginning of this debate. How his voice sounded that day, you know, he seemed a little disoriented. He did get stronger as the debate went on. By that time, I think the panic had set in and I think … there are gonna be discussions about whether he should continue.”
Axelrod has been banging the drum to replace Biden on the Democratic ticket for well over a year.
The panic went beyond just the typical political talking heads, as well. Jon Stewart called for using the 25th Amendment against the sitting president.

Biden’s performance left Van Jones, another CNN Democrat, on the brink of tears as he called for Joe Biden to step aside.
🚨CNN’S VAN JONES CALLS FOR BIDEN TO PULL OUT OF RACE:
“There are going to be a lot of people who want him to consider taking a different course now… That was not what we needed from Joe Biden. It is personally PAINFUL for a lot of people.” pic.twitter.com/IgcnwZhCbS

The Left also sprang for the attack against Biden, begging Democrats to replace him, calling it “an epic disaster.”

Not to fear, however. Democrats decided to roll out Vice President Kamala Harris to calm nerves.
BREAKING: CNN grills Kamala Harris—should Joe Biden step aside?
“CNN’s John King has described a panic in the Democratic Party right now because of Biden’s performance. Some in your party are even asking if President Biden should step aside. What do you say to that?”

The Hill reported that “Trump won Thursday night’s debate over President Biden by a 2-1 margin, according to a newly released survey.
Forty-three percent of respondents in a YouGov poll conducted Friday morning said they thought Trump the debate, compared to 22 percent who said they thought Biden won. Another 35 percent were unsure.
The poll echoed the findings of a separate poll from CNN immediately after the debate, when 67 percent said Trump won — more than double the 33 percent who said Biden won. In contrast, during the 2020 debate, when Trump repeatedly interrupted and talked over Biden and the moderator, 60 percent believed Biden had won.”
