A new survey released Wednesday finds Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) in a virtual tie with her primary challenger, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell.
The poll was released a day after Bush’s fellow “squad” member, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), became the first incumbent House Democrat to lose a primary this cycle.
A poll of 400 registered voters in Missouri’s first district saw Bell up one point, leading Bush 43 to 42 percent.
However, the poll had a margin of error of 4.9%. The most recent Mellman Group survey shows Bell improving from his 16-point deficit to Bush in January.
Bell also outperforms Bush in job performance and favorability ratings. Sixty-one percent of survey respondents rated Bell’s job performance positively, compared to 49% for Bush. 60% of respondents favor Bush, while 64% support Bell.
According to the study, 11% of voters remain uncertain about the contest.
Missouri’s primary will take place on August 6th, when the race is sure to garner national interest.
