Joe Biden has appeared to abandon the American hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza. During an interview with Univision, the president suggested that Israel should “just call for a ceasefire” that would give Hamas six to eight weeks to gather themselves and continue the fight.
The president also claimed that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach to removing Hamas was a “mistake.”
Over the past month, Biden and the Democrats have panicked that they might lose “Death to America” voters in swing states such as Michigan and Minnesota and have made several moves to assuage their concerns that they support America’s closest ally in the Middle East.
The New York Post transcribed the interview:
“What I’m calling for is for the Israelis to just call for a ceasefire, allow for the next six, eight weeks total access to all food and medicine going into the country,” the 81-year-old president said in an interview with Univision – taped six days ago – that aired Tuesday.
“I’ve spoken with everyone from the Saudis to the Jordanians to the Egyptians,” Biden added.
“They’re prepared to move in. They’re prepared to move this food in. And I think there’s no excuse to not provide for the medical and the food needs of those people. It should be done now.”
Absent from the president’s call for a ceasefire were any demands for concessions from the terror group responsible for last October’s deadly attack on the Jewish state.
As has happened before, the Biden interview revealed that he’s not actually in charge of what happens from the presidency. Following the president’s comments calling for a ceasefire lasting nearly two months without releasing the hostages as a precondition, a White House official claimed that Biden did not actually mean he was calling for a ceasefire lasting nearly two months without releasing the hostages as a precondition.

This would not be the first time that Biden has abandoned American hostages abroad in an effort to win a news cycle and keep his political base happy.
In 2022, because Lebron James and other celebrities urged him to, Biden traded one of the most dangerous figures in the world, Viktor Bout who has been called the “Merchant of Death” due to his rise to the top of international arms trafficking, for WNBA star Brittney Griner. He allowed the basketball player to jump in line over Michigan native Paul Whelan, who has been held for years in a Russian jail under charges of espionage.
