According to reports, CBS News took possession of Catherine Herridge’s personal confidential documents when they terminated her employment recently, causing surprise among employees who found the situation unprecedented.

In a recent article, law professor Jonathan Turley discussed the aftermath of her departure from the network, highlighting the concerning actions taken by CBS officials in seizing her files, computers, and records, which contained sensitive information.

“The position of CBS has alarmed many, including the union, as an attack on free press principles by one of the nation’s most esteemed press organizations. I have spoken confidentially with current and former CBS employees who have stated that they could not recall the company ever taking such a step before.” Turley  remarked.

Turley mentioned that there were internal concerns about the influence behind the decision to dismiss Herridge, which occurred during a period of staff reductions.

According to several individuals who worked at CBS News, they expressed surprise at the unusual situation and mentioned that employees typically departed with all their belongings.

The reductions affected 800 positions, approximately 3% of Paramount’s overall staff. According to an internal memo, Paramount CEO Bob Bakish informed employees that the significant cuts are essential for the company’s financial well-being.

The reductions affected CBS News, which has a workforce of approximately 2,000 individuals. Approximately 20 individuals were informed that they were being laid off, including some of the news organization’s most prominent figures like Herridge.

Herridge, who previously worked as a reporter for Fox News, is facing demands from U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper to reveal the sources behind her articles about a federal inquiry into a Chinese American scientist.

Herridge has not disclosed her sources and could potentially be found in contempt of court. She may face a fine of up to $5,000 per day.
