Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) criticized the “War, Debt, and Open Borders” measure, bipartisan Senate legislation that combines funds for foreign wars and other causes with border security reforms, in a harsh manner on Monday.

The Texas Republican cautioned via the social media platform X that the $118 billion package is designed to secure the re-election of President Joe Biden in a potential rematch with former President Donald Trump in 2020.

Roy additionally drew parallels between certain provisions of the 370-page measure and H.R. 2, a border security bill that was passed by the Republican-led House last year but never received Senate consideration; he also introduced another bill along these lines.

“The bill is NOT well-intended. It is also not a border security bill. It is, however, a bill designed by Democrats to boost Biden against Trump by helping Dems blame Republicans for open borders… a trap into which some GOP willingly walk in order to fund an insatiable desire for endless wars.” Roy said.

Roy pleaded with Congress to halt the measure, whose initial Senate vote is scheduled for this week.

As he campaigns for a second term in the White House, Trump, the Republican frontrunner, also denounced the Senate package as well.

“The ridiculous ‘Border’ Bill is nothing more than a highly sophisticated trap for Republicans to assume the blame on what the Radical Left Democrats have done to our Border, just in time for our most important EVER Election,” Trump explained on his Truth Social platform. “Don’t fall for it!!!”
