In an attempt to thwart the deployment of the Texas National Guard along the southern border of the United States by Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, Democrats are now urging President Joe Biden to assume command of the State Guard.
Abbott was accused of disobeying the Supreme Court by Texas Democratic Representatives Greg Casar and Joaquin Castro, who continued to station National Guard soldiers at the southern border and construct concertina wire barriers to illegal immigration.
“Governor Greg Abbott is using the Texas National Guard to obstruct and create chaos at the border. If Abbott is defying yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling, @POTUS needs to establish sole federal control of the Texas National Guard now.” Castro said in a post on X.

“Greg Abbott has continued to use political stunts and inflammatory language to advance his own agenda, violating the Constitution and endangering both U.S. citizens and asylum seekers. … I agree with @JoaquinCastrotx: if Abbott is defying yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling, @POTUS needs to establish sole federal control of the Texas National Guard.” Congressman Casar tweeted out in agreement.

Abbott levied a formal accusation against Biden on Wednesday, alleging that he contravened his oath of office and enabled an unauthorized immigration incursion into the state of Texas.
