In the primary election for his reelection to the House, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will face competition from a candidate representing the state’s 20th congressional district.

According to his campaign website, David Giglio, a former candidate for the state’s 13th District congressional seat, is running as a “America First Republican” who plans to “fight alongside President Donald Trump in 2024 as he WAGES WAR against the corrupt uniparty.”

Giglio also directly attacked McCarthy, who lost his position on October 3 after eight Republicans and Democrats backed a move to remove McCarthy from the Speaker’s chair.

“Kevin McCarthy FAILED the American people by not keeping his promises and capitulating to the corrupt Biden Regime and the radical Democrats. Americans are fed up with the status quo and hungry for change. I intend to do whatever it takes to fight, win, and deliver it for them!” he said on the campaign’s donation page. “Help me DEFEAT the Swamp by making a generous donation below and together we will send an America First fighter to Washington!” Gilgo said in a statement on his website.

The bipartisan, last-minute agreement struck by McCarthy to keep the government funded infuriated the breakaway faction of Republicans.

McCarthy has a reputation for being a generous donor and has previously won reelection with ease.

McCarthy was a staunch supporter of Trump throughout his tenure as Speaker and had a cordial working relationship with the outgoing president.

McCarthy denied rumors that he would leave his congressional seat as soon as possible, stating that he intended to run for reelection instead.
