Letitia James, the attorney general of New York, has reportedly sued the anti-abortion advocacy group Red Rose Rescue and repeatedly referred to it as a terrorist organization during a news conference on Thursday.
James is requesting that a 30-foot safety zone be established around abortion clinics in her state from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York so that none of the group’s members can interact with employees, volunteers, or patients.
According to a news release, the complaint names Red Rose Rescue, a Christian group, and five particular members of the group “for invading reproductive health care clinics, threatening staff and clinicians, and terrorizing patients.”
Between April 2021 and July 2022, James listed three incidents in which the named defendants entered abortion facilities in the state and resisted being asked to leave.
The organization’s website emphasizes the importance of its members “peacefully talking to women scheduled for abortion” and encouraging them to choose life by giving them flowers.
