Last month, two black suspects murdered a white contractor for racist reasons, according to a new report.

A detective from the Kenner Police Department testified in court last week that one of the two suspects arrested in connection with the April 10 murder of Lawrence Herr admitted that race played a role during questioning.

Tahj Matthews, 23, and Maurice Holmes, 25, were detained by police on April 11 and accused with murdering Herr, 66, while he was installing a mailbox the day before.

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley stated at the time of the arrest that police suspected the homicide was not a random gunshot.

One of the detectives on the case said in court that one of the suspects admitted they did the murder because they “wanted to kill a white person.”

Herr perished at a local hospital after being discovered wounded in the back in a driveway.

Police say surveillance footage shows the suspects driving past Herr three times before opening fire on the handyman.

Police stated at the time that they had obtained a confession from one of the two arrested suspects, and that the confession implicated the other suspect.

According to police, the two suspects had only met two weeks prior to the murder.
