Chris Christie, a former governor of New Jersey, has now reportedly blasted former President Trump for how he handled this week’s E. Jean Carroll jury ruling finding Trump responsible for sexual assault and slander.
Carroll was awarded $5 million in damages after the jury on Tuesday ruled that Trump had sexually assaulted her in the 1990s and had later lied about her accusations.
“His response yesterday to me was ridiculous, that he didn’t even know the woman. I mean, you know, how many coincidences are we going to have here with Donald Trump, Brian?” Christie said during an conversation with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade.
“I was there with him when the Access Hollywood tape came out, and let me tell you something, Brian: He was embarrassed. He was embarrassed then. He’s tried to change the whole history now, but he was embarrassed then. Look, this kind of conduct is unacceptable for somebody that we call a leader.” He continued.
While Christie contended the verdict wouldn’t be the ‘silver bullet’ that brings down Trumps candidacy, he contended that it was yet more evidence that the former President is, according to him, unfit for office.
Alvin Bragg, the Democratic district attorney for Manhattan, charged Trump separately in an investigation earlier this year.
The Justice Department and Georgia’s Fulton County are also looking into the former president in a number of other investigations.
