Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., reportedly acknowledged that President Biden’s possession of classified information from his time as vice president was a bad look after condemning former President Donald Trump for a similar situation, but she quickly shifted her focus to Republicans who want to look into it further.
The Michigan Democrat then moved to Republicans, including Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who was also on the show that day.
During an interview with ‘Meet the Press Host,’ Chuck Todd asked Stabenow if she now would be forced to ‘eat her words’ regarding her past criticism of Trump.
“Well, it’s certainly embarrassing. Right? I mean it’s embarrassing that you would find a small number of documents, certainly not on purpose. They don’t think it’s the right thing and they’ve been moving to correct it, working with the Department of Justice, working with everyone involved, with the Archives, and so from my perspective, you know, it’s one of those moments that obviously they wish hadn’t happened.” Stabenow replied.
She went on to claim that people in her state “aren’t interested in all of this, just chaos, and investigations, which is where the Republicans feel comfortable, unfortunately.”
Republicans, according to Stabenow, would be meddling with the economy by probing Biden.
On the same day as Stabenow’s statements, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., requested visitor records from Biden’s house in Wilmington, Delaware, claiming national security concerns after classified papers were discovered there.
